Lent 2017

Lent 2017 Experiential Calendar

Lent is a season in which we have the opportunity to practice giving up something important in order to refocus our lives on God. By fasting from certain things, we practice dying to ourselves. And by refocusing our lives, living to God, we intentionally choose things that help us become the kind of people God created us to be. This calendar suggests daily practices to orient ourselves toward God. Don’t look at it as a “to do” list. If it is helpful, great. If there are practices you feel would be more helpful for you, by all means put those in your calendar.

You’ll notice each day has a Scripture text to reflect on. The text each day is the text we will be exploring together that coming Sunday. It would be wonderful if we all are reading the same text each day and reflecting on it. In your Faith Communities or those you do life together with, invite each person to choose a character in the text for the week and answer these four questions as if you were that person:

  • Who am I?
  • Where am I?
  • What’s wrong?
  • What’s the remedy?

You could write a story or poem from that person’s perspective. If you are an artist you could paint, draw or write a song. The hope is that we will journey through this season together as a community, having common practices and something in common to talk about. Please join us in experiencing this Lenten season together!
