Discussion Questions:

What resonated most with you about this passage and teaching?

Verses 1 and 2 of chapter 5 say: "Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools" and "Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God."? How would our culture be different if we listened more and talked less? What would it mean to listen to God more than we talk?

Do you agree with verse 10? Why or why not? "Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income." What has brought you lasting satisfaction?

Verse 18 says: "When God gives someone wealth and possessions, and the ability to enjoy them, to accept their lot and be happy in their toil—this is a gift of God." How does this verse speak to you? Where does satisfaction come from?

John 4: the woman at the well. What are some differences between water from the well, and the living water that Jesus was talking about.

1 Peter 1:18 says, "You were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors." What is that empty way?

Dr. Dave referenced Chapter 3 verse 11: "He has also set eternity in the human heart." Do you see yourself as a physical being having spiritual experiences, or a spiritual being having a physical experience (this life)? How do these perspectives change how you see your life? How does a physical being handle earthly riches, and seek satisfaction? How is this different for an eternal being?

In what ways do you hope to integrate elements of this text into your life this week?
