Discussion Questions:

What resonated most with you about this passage and teaching?

What point do you think Jesus is making in this story?

Gandhi said that people spend a lot of time thinking about their rights but not so much time considering their duty. Talk about the differences between rights and duty. (Gandhi also said “a duty well performed creates a corresponding right”.)

What rights do we fight for? What effect does that have on our relationships and our world? What is the alternative? Is that appealing?

"A scandal is something so far beyond the bounds of what is considered acceptable, normal or moral that it elicits strong reaction or outrage." Brad also said that someone pays the cost for a scandal. What are some examples of current scandals, and who is paying the cost?

What characterized the scandals that Jesus entered into? Why did he want to avoid a scandal from not paying the temple tax? What were some of Jesus' scandalous acts?

What are some examples of scandals that changed the world? Who paid the price for those?

What are some ways that you could "Be Scandalous"?

In what ways do you hope to integrate elements of this text into your life this week?
