Discussion Questions:

What resonated most with you about this passage and teaching?

Considering the relationship between Jews and Romans during this miracle of Jesus, what are ways, if any, that we tend to put people on the other side of “us and them” today?

How to you feel about the statement, “Our first identity is that we are beloved and made in the image of God. We don’t build that on the differences between other people, but on the thing that is true.”

How might we live if our position is more important than or posture? If our posture is more important that our position?

The centurion didn’t let difference get in the way of his curiosity, he crossed a bunch of boundaries to get to Jesus. What if we took a 7 day break from the regular ways that we classify people in “us and them” language? Abstaining from classifications such as race, religion, gender, political affiliation, and culture.

Think of yourself as an outsider, like the centurion coming to Jesus, or no longer being on the inside if you already are. What do you think you could learn?

The centurion took his honest desire to Jesus. What if the centurion is our model today for engaging our creator and one another? What do you long for in your life right now?

In what ways do you hope to integrate elements of this text into your life this week?
